No bail for senior charged with shooting teen on Sturgeon County property

A Sturgeon County senior facing firearms charges was denied bail Thursday after allegedly shooting a teenager, causing serious injuries.

Jim Bregin, 84, was charged with aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and intentional reckless discharge of a firearm.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

He was charged after a youth sustained life-threatening injuries after being shot on Bregin’s rural Sturgeon County property north of St. Albert on June 29.

Two youths were on Bregin’s property when they were confronted by a man armed with a firearm who then opened fire and shot one of the youths, according to the RCMP.

The youth sustained life-threatening injures and was transported to hospital, said the RCMP.
