City of Edmonton activates extreme heat response

The City of Edmonton has activated its Extreme Weather Response as temperatures are expected to rise once again.

Effective immediately, the city is providing 24-hour access to water at bottle filling stations located near fire hydrants throughout Edmonton. Peace officers will be distributing water bottles to individuals in need.

Residents seeking relief from the heat can access any open city facility, where air conditioning and water bottles will be available.

“A prolonged heat event is expected,” Environment Canada said. “For the next eight to 10 days, daytime highs will be between 28 and 35 degrees Celsius and overnight lows will range from 12 to 20 degrees Celsius. This heat warning is likely to be expanded to include additional regions of Alberta.”

The Extreme Weather Response is scheduled to remain in effect until July 23rd. For a list of water filling station locations, residents are encouraged to visit the City of Edmonton’s website.

If you see someone outside that you’re concerned for, call 211 and press 3 for the 24/7 Crisis Diversion Team.
