Today’s smoke is looking a bit worse than yesterday

Today we will have a high of 34° at 4 PM and a low of 24 closer to midnight, calling for yet another sweaty night.

Edmonton has activated their extreme heat response with temperatures expected to go into the 30’s this week. The extreme heat response, initially scheduled to conclude on July 23, has been extended to July 26 due to anticipated high temperatures. In addition to that, we are also under an air quality advisory.Wildfire smoke is causing or expected to cause very poor air quality and reduced visibility.

Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour.

In the two pictures above you can see the visibility difference (it was winter when second one was taken but just look at the water tower)

This week, Alberta continues to experience very hot temperatures amidst a record-length heat wave. Edmonton has seen 6 consecutive days above 30°C. Dense smoke will worsen air quality in Northern Alberta in the coming days, with Southern Alberta possibly affected by smoke from British Columbia. Residents in fire-prone areas are advised to prepare a grab-and-go kit in case of evacuations.
