Man pleads guilty to manslaughter in deadly Mill Woods shooting

EDMONTON — Tevahn Dean Orr has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with a deadly break-in and shooting at a Mill Woods home, reducing the charge from the original first-degree murder accusation.

Orr was one of two masked and armed men who forcibly entered the residence in the early hours of January 1, 2023. During the incident, his accomplice fired two shots, both of which struck Barrinder Singh, a father who was in the house. Singh’s wife and two daughters were in separate bedrooms at the time.

Police report that after the initial shots, three more were fired—one hitting one of the daughters, who was hiding in the bathroom, and another striking Orr. The assailants fled the scene in a white pickup truck.

Singh was rushed to hospital but did not survive his injuries. His daughter continues to suffer from long-term nerve damage.

A sentencing date for Orr is scheduled to be set in September.
