An Edmonton man, sought under a Canada-wide warrant, has been apprehended in Yellowknife.
According to police, the incident occurred in late July around 4 a.m. near downtown Edmonton. An 18-year-old woman, disturbed by a vehicle revving its engine, went onto her apartment balcony and asked the driver to quiet down. The male suspect approached the vehicle, argued with the woman, and then fired a shot at her before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the woman was not physically injured.
Edmonton Police Service identified the shooter as 19-year-old Jackito Guiawan and issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.
Yellowknife RCMP subsequently located Guiawan at a residence and arrested him. During the search, police recovered three firearms and evidence of drug trafficking. Guiawan now faces multiple charges related to the Yellowknife investigation.
Guiawan was charged with discharging a firearm with intent, discharging a firearm recklessly, possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle and possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition.
