Edmonton police seize drugs in one of the service’s largest bust in EPS history

Edmonton police have made a significant drug seizure, recovering over 66 kilograms of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin from a central Edmonton high-rise.

The operation, part of an inter-provincial drug trafficking investigation led by the Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement Section (EDGE) since December 2023, resulted in a major breakthrough in May. Police executed search warrants at three homes and three vehicles, uncovering a large cache of drugs and other contraband.

“This investigation is believed to be one of the largest, if not the largest, seizure of controlled substances in EPS history,” says Staff Sgt. David Paton with the Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Section.

From the searches, officers seized:

  • 55.7 kg of methamphetamine, valued around $250,650
  • 8.7 kg of cocaine, estimated at $696,000
  • 2.5 kg of fentanyl, worth approximately $300,000
  • 83.5 grams of heroin, with a value of about $28,400
  • 20 kg of a buffing agent
  • Five handguns, three loaded and with defaced serial numbers, including two stolen in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and one from the U.S.
  • Four vehicles with hidden compartments
  • Approximately $20,000 in cash

Three men are facing a total of 38 charges related to drugs and firearms. Jesse Koble, 29, faces 27 charges; Mitchell Steeg, 31, is charged with nine; and Steven Santillana, 34, faces two.
