Hurricane Milton reached the Atlantic Ocean today after making landfall in Florida, where it knocked out power for over three million people and spawned approximately 150 tornadoes.
While the storm spared Tampa a direct hit, it was still responsible for at least 6 fatalities.
In its 5 a.m. update Thursday, the National Hurricane Center warned that hurricane-force winds at about 85 mph are expected to continue for a few more hours in east-central and northeast Florida.
Tracking southward in its final hours, Milton made landfall late yesterday as a Category 3 storm. Although the damage could have been worse, significant destruction occurred, and water levels are expected to continue rising over the next few days.
As of this morning, storm surge warnings have been issued for much of the east-central Florida coast and extending into Georgia, while tropical storm warnings are in effect along the South Carolina coast.
