Edmonton man charged after millions of dollars worth of cocaine seized during traffic stop

An Edmonton man is facing multiple charges after RCMP seized approximately $6.8 million worth of cocaine during a traffic stop near Hinton last month.

RCMP say that around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 23, an officer stopped a pickup truck on Highway 16. Observations made by the officer raised suspicions of illegal drug possession, prompting police to detain the driver and bring in a K9 unit. The dog indicated the presence of drugs, leading officers to discover around 68 kilograms of cocaine and a loaded handgun in the vehicle.

The suspect, identified as Ranjit Singh Sekhon, of Edmonton, has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possessing a restricted weapon without registration or a license.
