Hundreds of Nurses all across Alberta rallied for better wages and to raise awareness about the state of healthcare on Day of Action Saturday this past weekend. The United Nurses of Alberta (UNA) said the rally was an important opportunity for nurses in Alberta to advocate for better working conditions. They also wanted to spread awareness about the current staff shortage and service cuts. Rallies were sparked after UNA members rejected a tentative mediator’s recommendation in October. The mediator recommended pay raises between 12 and 22 per cent over four years, whereas nurses wanted almost 30 per cent over two years. The wage increase would help hundreds of nurses catch up with the current cost of living in Alberta.
