The Sherwood Park U18A Tier 1 Knights have etched their names into local hockey history, completing an undefeated 44-0-0 season capped by a dominant provincial championship victory.
From start to finish, the Knights were a force on the ice. After sweeping through the regular season undefeated, the team carried their momentum into Minor Hockey Week and the league playoffs, collecting championship banners along the way.
Their provincial run in Duchess was equally commanding. The Knights opened the tournament with a 6-3 win over the Bow River Bruins, followed by victories over Edson (5-2) and the host team Duchess (12-3). After dispatching La Crete in the semifinals, the Knights faced Bow River once more in the final, shutting them out 4-0 to bring home the gold.
The team’s success was built on exceptional goaltending, a disciplined defensive corps, and a relentless offensive unit. Each part of the lineup contributed consistently throughout the season, and the Knights’ depth allowed them to overcome adversity and maintain their unblemished record.
Their journey wasn’t without controversy. Mid-season, several associations attempted to have the Knights ruled ineligible for playoffs, arguing their dominance was unfair. The challenge, based on an unwritten rule, was ultimately overturned after legal involvement and support from governing bodies.
The championship holds extra significance, marking the first time a Sherwood Park U18A Tier 1 team has claimed the provincial crown. With only five players eligible to return, the Knights will look different next season—but their undefeated legacy is firmly in place.
