Strathcona County lifts fire ban to advisory amid rainy weather

Effective as of Tuesday, May 20th, Strathcona County has lifted its fire ban, but a fire advisory still remains in place.

Under a fire advisory, fire and firework permits are valid, but they may be temporarily suspended based on current weather conditions.

Fire permits are required for open fires, such as yard debris and brush. Fire permits can be applied for online at strathcona.ca/FirePermit.

Permit holders must text “BURN” to the Burning Status Line at 844-414-BURN(2876) prior to launching fireworks or starting a fire.

“With the amount of rain, we have received and forecasted cooler temperatures, our risk of wildfire has dropped,” said Fire Chief Martin Paulson. “We ask residents to remain cautious with any burning as conditions may change quickly due to the pre-existing dry conditions. Call or text the Burning Status Line before burning.”
