Edmonton man arrested for alleged online sexual assault of a child

An Edmonton man, 55, was arrested last week after the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit was alerted to online activity regarding the sexual assault of a child in Vietnam.

The investigation involved Canadian, American and Vietnamese authorities.

The Edmontonian allegedly directed the sexual assault of a Vietnamese toddler, believed to be aged 2 or 3 at the time of the assault, virtually through a livestream. Investigators say the livestream took place sometime between 2021 and 2022.

The livestream was recorded and posted online by the arrested individual.

The Vietnamese assailant has been identified and detained according to international authorities.

The man is set to appear in court in June. His identity has not been released.
