The Northwest Territories RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit is asking for help from the Edmonton public to locate a man wanted on serious criminal charges.
Aydarus Abdi Warsame, 56, is wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant issued on May 9, 2024, in the Northwest Territories. He is charged with possession and accessing child pornography, as well as failing to appear in court.
Warsame was initially charged in February 2022 following an investigation by the ICE Unit. After a preliminary hearing in February 2024, a judge ruled there was sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. He was ordered to appear in court on May 9 to set a trial date but failed to attend.
Following multiple unsuccessful attempts to find him, RCMP now believe he may be in Edmonton, where he was last known to reside.
Warsame is described as 5’10” (180 cm), approximately 200 lbs. (91 kg), bald, with a black beard and brown eyes.
The RCMP is urging anyone with information about Warsame’s location to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Yellowknife RCMP at 867-669-1111 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.p3tips.com.
The ICE Unit investigates online child exploitation across Canada and relies on public assistance to locate suspects evading justice. Authorities warn the public not to approach Warsame if spotted but to contact police immediately.
