A truck thief has allegedly been using a garage in Kitscoty, a town just over 200 kilometres east of Fort Saskatchewan and about 20 kilometres west of Lloydminster, as a chop shop to dismantle vehicles for parts to sell on Facebook Marketplace.
Kitscoty RCMP, with assistance from the Llyodminster RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS), conducted an investigation in late May following a tip from the public. A search warrant was executed at a local Kitscoty mechanic shop. As a result of the search, four stolen vehicles and a stolen license plate were found.
The vehicles were found to have been stolen from Lloydminster, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, and Maidstone.
A 29-year-old male has been arrested as part of the investigation. His name has not been released.
The individual is charged with four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property under $5,000, one count of trafficking of stolen property under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking.
There is a scheduled court date for the arrested individual in Lloydminster on August 12.
