Redwater wildfire under control, evacuation order lifted

Effective as of May 13, evacuated residents of Sturgeon County have been permitted to return to their homes. A re-entry guide with important information is avaibale at SturgeonCounty.ca.

The county is asking that residents respect road closures and avoid burned areas as firefighters continue to do their work to keep the fire contained.

Despite the evacuation notice being lifted, Sturgeon County is still under a state of local emergency. With the long weekend approaching, the county is reminding the public that total fire and OHV/ATV bans remain in place, as well as no new burn permits or firework permits being issued.

If you witness a ban violation, please call the complaint line at 780-939-8418 as soon as possible.

Firefighters are continuing to extinguish hot spots in the interior of the fire.
