Fort Saskatchewan RCMP bust sports car going near 200 km/h

A Fort Saskatchewan resident has been arrested after getting caught driving almost double the speed limit down Highway 15.

Police say they spotted a white Toyota GR86 speeding down the highway on Thursday (Sep. 28) in heavy traffic. A laser radar found that the vehicle was going 197 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

The 20-year-old driver has been arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Drivers caught speeding at least 51 km/h over the speed limit face six demerit points and must make a mandatory court appearance.

The fines that the driver will be facing are up to the discretion of the court.
