Two people are dead, and one is injured following a string of fires at homeless encampments across Edmonton.
On Saturday, a 54-year-old man died after his tent caught fire at an encampment near 100 Street and 105A Avenue.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services were called to the scene at around 7 p.m. before clearing the scene almost two hours later.
The man was apparently inside the tent when it caught fire and died from his injuries.
Although the man’s death does not appear to be suspicious, investigators are waiting for more details from the Chief Medical Examiner.
On Saturday another death was reported at another encampment just a few blocks away.
Police arrived at around 3 p.m. to the area of 95 Street and 105A Avenue where they found a woman dead inside of a multi-layered tent.
The woman, who police believe is in her mid 20s, has not been identified yet.
Then, on Monday, there was another fire at the same area of the first. One person was taken to hospital that evening with burn injuries.
Officers have no more details on the burn victim.
There are an estimated 2,800 homeless people in Edmonton, including 750 who sleep outside.
