An Edmonton police dog helped arrest a suspect in a crash involving a stolen truck over the weekend.
On Sunday evening, police noticed a 2007 Ford F-350 with a license plate that didn’t match the vehicle. The officers tried to pull the truck over, but the driver reportedly sped away from the scene.
Police did not chase after the truck, which ran a red light at 118 Avenue before continuing eastbound and hitting a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer. Police say the truck was also running a red light when the crash occurred.
After the crash, the truck hit a nearby apartment building, while the Lancer hit a tree.
The driver of the stolen truck tried to flee from the scene but was tracked down and arrested with the help of a police dog.
The driver of the truck and two occupants from the Mitsubishi Lancer were taken to hospital as a precaution as police investigated the crash, where they determined the truck was stolen.
The man who was driving the truck is now facing several charges.
