The man who fired a gun in Edmonton’s City Hall is facing a series of charges.
At around 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday, a man parked his vehicle at City Hall’s underground parkade before entering the building through the parkade access.
Once the man was inside City Hall, he set off several incendiary devices believed to be Molotov cocktails. The devices led to one small fire outside of an elevator.
Afterwards he fired several rounds from a long gun into the ceiling, walls, and windows. Police say that no one was hit by the gunfire.
The man then dropped his weapon on the floor and surrendered to City Hall security, who held him until police arrived.
EPS and the RCMP tactical team worked for several hours evacuating the building and cleaning the scene.
The man was identified as 28-year-old Bezhani Sarvar, and is charged with:
- Reckless discharge of firearm into place
- Use/place/throw explosive substance
- Arson to property
- Possess incendiary material
- Use of firearm while committing offence Careless use of firearm.
Sarvar has a bail hearing on Thursday, while EPS works on the investigation alongside the RCMP.
