Epcor issues water ban on non-essential use

Epcor has issued a ban on non-essential water use in the area.

This ban is due to an issue at The Rossdale Water Treatment Plant that was spotted at around 2 a.m. on Monday morning.

“The Rossdale Water Treatment Plant remains operational; however, it cannot adequately supply the entire service area with normal water consumption,” Epcor wrote in a release.

This had led to businesses in Sherwood Park, Edmonton, St. Albert, Stony Plain, Leduc, Beaumont, Spruce Grove, and Fort Saskatchewan being asked to not use water unless it is essential.

Strathcona County has also announced a ban for all residential properties and are asking all residents to limit water use by:

·        Taking short five-minute showers.

·        Not washing vehicles.

·        Postponing laundry and dish washing.

·        Not flooding outdoor rinks.

·        Waiting to fill hot tubs, pools or large aquariums.

·        Turning off taps while shaving and brushing your teeth.

·        Flushing toilets only when necessary.

Businesses expected to use a lot of water, like laundromats and car washes, are asked to stop water use altogether.

Epcor mentioned there is no impact to the quality of water, but when the plant will be restored is not known.
