Merchants, Jets face off in tiebreaker finals match

Tonight is the final game of the season between the St. Albert Merchants and the Morinville Jets, with only one team making it into the league championship.

The game takes place at the Jarome Iginla Arena at 8 p.m., with the winner going forward to take on the Beaumont Chiefs for the championship.

Their series began in early March with the Jets winning the first game, before the Merchants racked up two wins in a row.

In game four, the Jets turned around and got their second win, forcing the series into a fifth, tiebreaker match.

If the Merchants win this game, this will be the second year in a row that they enter the championship series of the Capital Junior Hockey League.

Last year the Merchants were taken out in the championship series by the Sherwood Park Knights. It’s been 19 years since the Merchants won their last championship.

However, this season the Knights were taken out of the playoffs following four games against the Beaumont Chiefs.

The St. Albert Merchants will be hosting live updates of the game on their Twitter account.
