Two hospitalized after crash in Fort Saskatchewan

Fort Saskatchewan emergency services brought two people to hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 15 and Highway 21, which police believe was caused by impaired driving.

The crash was reported just before midnight on Thursday, with emergency responders tending to the occupants of both vehicles that were involved. According to police, both vehicles were pickup trucks.

The driver and passenger in one of the vehicles were taken to hospital as one was suffering from serious but non-life threatening injuries. As for the driver of the other vehicle, they were arrested on scene for impaired driving.

Police remained on scene as they investigated, diverting traffic for several hours. Their investigation indicated that the impaired driver has rear ended the other vehicle.

According to police, the impaired driver is a 38-year-old St. Albert man. He was taken into custody where he was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
  • Operate a vehicle with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg % causing bodily harm

The impaired driver was released from custody and will be appearing in court at a future date.
