Morinville implements fire restriction

The Town of Morinville implemented a fire restriction yesterday afternoon.

The restriction comes due to ongoing dry conditions, which residents urged to be cautious and comply with safe fire practices.

Residents will no longer be allowed to do any open burning on farmland, or to use fireworks. However, backyard fire pits with screens, and gas powered barbecues and patio heaters are still allowed.

“Please exercise extreme caution with all smoking materials,” wrote the town in a release. “Cigarette butts should be disposed of in metal containers specifically designed for this purpose.”

The town mentioned that this restriction may be upgraded to a ban with minimal notice, depending on the changes in weather conditions.

You can keep up to date with fire advisories, restrictions, and bans in the area by visiting the Alberta Fire Bans website.
