St. Albert’s Pickleball Club has seen a huge increase in membership over the last few years.
Since 2022 the club has seen a membership increase of 54 per cent. According to the club, they’re expecting to reach over 1,000 members by the start of the summer.
The outdoor season began on April 22, with the club playing throughout school gymnasiums over the winter. However, the club is concerned that this increase in membership may be outpacing the space they have.
With just under 900 members now, only 40 people are allowed on a court at once, which leads to many wait times, even with several courts to use. Despite this, the club still has a series of tournaments planned throughout the summer, with a sanctioned tournament going on in August.

Pickleball was founded in the United States back in 1965 by Joel Pritchard, who served as Washington’s lieutenant governor.
