Strathcona County lifts fire restriction

Strathcona County has announced that they’ve reduced their fire restriction to a fire advisory.

This is due to cooler temperatures and the recent rain in the area, with the fire advisory now allowing fireworks and other open fires.

“With the amount of rain we have received and forecasted cooler temperatures, our risk of wildfire has dropped,” said Fire Chief Martin Paulson. “We ask residents to remain cautious with any burning as conditions may change quickly due to the pre-existing dry conditions. Call or text the Burning Status Line before burning.”

Fire permits are now required for recreational fires, with more information on fire safety and regulations on the Strathcona County website.

While Strathcona County is the first county to reduce their fire risk status, other places such as Gibbons and Edmonton, haven’t even put a fire advisory in place.

You can catch a look at fire advisories, restrictions, and bans in the area on the Alberta Fire Bans website.
