Sheldon Keefe fired from Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have decided to fire head coach Sheldon Keefe.

The announcement was made on Thursday following the franchises loss against the Boston Bruins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Keefe had played with the Leafs for five years, helping them achieve franchise-high points and victories in the 2021-22 season.

Despite Toronto being tied for the longest active playoff streak in the league and winning their first playoff series in 19 years last spring, the team continues to struggle in the playoffs.

Following their elimination from the playoffs, Keefe took responsibility for the team not meeting expectations while also voicing his high hopes for the future.

However, now Keefe is gone as head coach, with the team now looking for a new one. Who this new coach is, or when they’ll be joining the team, is not known.

The last time Toronto won the Stanley Cup was 57 years ago.
