Edmonton conducting business census

The City of Edmonton launched their second annual business census last week.

This census serves to collect data from local businesses to shape how the city supports economic development.

“Data collected from our business census provides us with a clear direction on how we can offer support and resources to our business community in a way that truly meets their needs,” said Mayor Amarjeet Sohi. “I encourage all business owners, especially those from minority groups, to ensure they take part. Your voice is important to creating a local economy that is reflective of the many diverse entrepreneurs in our city.”

Summer students will be working as enumerators, going door-to-door to businesses to collect data such as the business’ location, the industry, and the number of employees.

Enumeration began last week with the census available in English, Chinese, Somali, Vietnamese, French, Tagalog, and Hindi.

Results from the 2023 business census are available on the City of Edmonton’s Open Data Portal. The 2024 results will also be added to the portal after the census is complete.
