Oilers penalty kill streak ends in Game 2 loss

The Oilers have their work cut out for them after dropping Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers 4-1, and return home from Florida down 2-0 in the series.

Mattias Eckholm opened the opened the scoring for the Oilers, but then surrendered four unanswered Panthers goals.  The Panthers were led by two goals by Evan Rodrigues, who also scored in Game 1.

Panthers goalie Bobrovsky faced only 19 shots in the game.

The Oilers power play was anemic, not registering a shot on goal in four power play opportunities.  In the series, the Oilers have not scored on seven power plays.

But not all is doom and gloom.  The Oilers penalty kill got the job done, killing off a five-minute major assessed to Warren Foegele for kneeing.  The penalty kill streak ended at 33, however, when the Oilers surrendered a power play goal to Evan Rodrigues in the third period.

Teams trailing 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final have won only five times in 54 tries.  However, being down in a series in these playoffs is familiar territory for the Oilers, as they rebounded from a 3-2 deficit against the Canucks and spotted the Stars a 2-1 lead before winning both series.
