Oilers season of destiny comes down to Game 7

“It’s time to pull out all the stops.”
“This is for all the marbles.”
“There is no tomorrow.”
“It’s the two most exciting words in sports: Game 7.”

The Oilers are primed to achieve two great accomplishments tonight—three if you count Boston Pizza giving Edmonton 30,000 free pizzas if the Oilers win the Stanley Cup—being the first team in 82 years to win the Stanley Cup after losing the first three games, and being the first Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup since 1993.

Who would have thought after starting the season 2-9-1 that the Oilers would make the playoffs?  Who would have thought after Game 3 that the Oilers would make it to Game 7?

Everybody in the Oilers locker room.

This Stanley Cup Final series has been one for the ages.  While being at the game Monday night in Florida will be a dream for most of us, there are opportunities much closer to home to take part in this moment in hockey history.

While for the Rogers Road Game Watch Party inside Rogers Place are sold out, the Scotiabank Fan Park and Ford Tailgate Party in the ICE district, as well as Molson Hockey House in Ford Hall (18+) are opportunities to take in the atmosphere.  As an added bonus, each of these events are free admission.

One of two stories will play out tonight: either the Oilers will come up short, or they will win the Stanley Cup in the most dramatic way possible.  In what has turned out to be a memorable season full of ups and downs, the sports gods couldn’t have picked a more fitting ending.

Zach Hyman has 16 goals and 6 assists in the 2024 playoffs.
