The Oilers Celebrating Black Excellence game is tomorrow night at Roger’s Place

Tomorrow night is the Black Excellence Celebration game at Roger’s Place! the Oilers go up against the Colorado Avalanche. Fans that are at Roger’s won’t just be enjoying the game, but celebrating the history, contributions and accomplishments of Black Canadians in Oil Country.

There will be a variety of in-game elements featured at the game. The Canadian National Anthem will be sung by singer/actress Karella Cummings and there will be fun and informative feature videos. Also, a handcrafted 8′-by-10′ Oilers Black Excellence tapestry created by local artist AJA Louden will be hung right by the main gates of Ford Hall.

“The tapestry I crafted for the Oilers Black Excellence Celebration is a tribute to the ongoing story of Black players breaking ground in hockey,” said Louden. “Representation helps empower communities; both sport and art can bring us closer together.”

Limited-edition Oilers Celebrating Black Excellence merch will be sold at the Oilers Team Store in ICE District Plaza and online. A portion of proceeds will go to Shiloh Centre for Multicultural Roots, chosen by AJA Louden.

The final celebration game of the season, the Oilers South Asian Celebration game, will be held on March 4.
