Police arrest Edmonton man for threatening Muslim community

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have arrested a man over the weekend for a threat-related incident.

On Sunday (Oct. 15) afternoon, officers were sent to a disturbance in the area of 110 Street and 153 Avenue.

Officers arrived to discover a man acting aggressively, yelling racial slurs, and uttering threats towards the Muslim community.

Police tried to arrest the man but were met with resistance. Eventually officers managed to place the man in custody without injury.

The 50-year-old suspect has been charged with mischief, uttering threats, and resisting arrest. The EPS Hate Crimes Unit is also recommending that the courts consider increased sentencing due to the offence being motivated by hate.
