Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey host first ever owl encounter

The Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey held their first ever owl encounter over the weekend.

On Saturday (Feb. 24), the encounter was held near South Cooking Lake to celebrate these birds who had been rehabilitated after being injured while out in the wild.

This event also gave participants the opportunity to take pictures of these birds in flight while learning more about them and the rehabilitation they go through at the shelter.

Tickets were sold rapidly as this was the first event of its kind held by the society. All ticket sales went back into the society to keep them operating.

The Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey has been around since the 1980s, being founded by Karl and Eva Grantmyre. You can learn more about the society on their Facebook page.
