Oilfield company charged $360,000 in workplace death

The death of a man at a workplace in Red Deer has led to the equipment supplier being charged $360,000.

Isolation Equipment Services Inc. plead guilty for failing to remove the potential danger of equipment in relation to the death.

According to a release by the provincial government, the death was on a Red Deer construction site in January of 2022. A crane operator had their equipment release from their rigging, killing them.

The company has been charged $360,000, including a $1,000 fine. The other $359,000 will be paid to Energy Safety Canada so that they can develop competency programs.

The company now has a month to appeal either the conviction or the penalties that they face.
