Update on Strathcona County’s shelter in place

Strathcona County RCMP have given another update on the shelter in place that happened earlier this week.

On Monday morning officers were informed about a gun going off near homes on Range Road 223. When officers arrived, they discovered that the suspect had went back into their home.

The RCMP issued the shelter in place as they responded to the incident, speaking with the suspect and deescalating the situation until the suspect had surrendered to police.

The Strathcona County General Investigations Section has taken over the case, with police charging 40-year-old Michael Patrick Campeau with careless use of a firearm and discharging a firearm with intent.

Campeau was placed in custody as he awaited his court date on Wednesday.
