Alberta searching for contractors to restore land used for 2023 wildfire season

The Alberta government is seeking contractors to restore land cleared for fireguards during last year’s active wildfire season, with a focus on areas near Edson, west of Edmonton, and High Level in the province’s northwest.

The province’s Forestry and Parks Ministry has issued a request for proposals for the restoration work, which involves rehabilitating fireguards — barriers created by clearing vegetation to slow the spread of wildfires. The ministry says this work is essential for preventing soil erosion, stabilizing the land, and encouraging natural regrowth.

As of November 13, there are 13 active wildfires in Alberta and all of them are out of control according to the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard.

This year over 1,200 wildfires have been extinguished so far
