Edmonton Police Service (EPS) and the City of Edmonton automated enforcement issued over 1,300 tickets during the most recent “Operation 24 Hours”.
Throughout October 12, police ended up handing out a total of 1,360 tickets. 1,166 of these tickets were for speeding, while the other 194 were for other violations.
These include 78 red light violations, 78 TSA infractions, 22 hazardous infractions, 14 distracted driving violations, and two instances of criminal code offences.
These two criminal code offences included one for impaired driving, and another for driving while disqualified.
Throughout the day police observed events such as a Dodge Ram going 107 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, and a Hyundai Veloster going 120 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
In the case of the Veloster, the driver attempted to flee police, getting involved in a hit and run during the process. The vehicle and the 17-year-old driver were located later in the day in Beaumont.
EPS and the City of Edmonton coordinate these campaigns to help improve traffic safety on Edmonton roadways.
