The curling season is just around the corner for Morinville Curling Club.
Registration for Morinville Curling Club is open online until September 27.
“The club itself has been in operation since 1952, and the currently building we’re in now we moved into in the 80s,” said Dave Pinault, president of the club.
The club is open to all kinds of players, even those who haven’t curled before. The club is hosting a learn-to-curl clinic on October 1 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. so people can see what the club has to offer.
“We have some of our board members and active curlers that come out. We have new people come and give it a try and see if it’s something they like,” stated Pinault. “If they have a team they want to put in, we can have them playing by week two.”
Pinault added that he hopes to get more new players interested in curling as a winter sport.
“I think a lot of people are intimidated by it. I’ve been curling for a while, and I have a great time. We have a team of fairly younger guys, and we have fun,” said Pinault. “It’s like the golf of the winter. You can go there and have a good time. It’s not overly competitive. There’s a lounge where you can relax and chit chat.”
“We’re trying to be as active as possible in the community to promote the sport and to get people involved. It’s a really good time and not something you have to be good at.”
